Introduction: In the field of dentistry, root canal treatment plays a crucial role in saving teeth affected by irreversible pulpitis. This blog is a a case study involving a 19-year-old patient Sumaira who presented with severe toothache and underwent successful root canal treatment.
Case Presentation: The patient, a 19-year-old female, visited the clinic with a history of toothache persisting for six days. Upon examination and radiographic evaluation, the diagnosis of irreversible pulpitis was made. Considering the patient’s age and the nature of the condition, root canal treatment was advised.
Treatment Process: The root canal treatment was performed in two visits. During the first visit, pulpectomy was carried out, followed by the placement of non-setting calcium hydroxide in the canals for disinfection. The patient reported no pain after the first visit, indicating successful alleviation of symptoms.
In the second visit, the canals were obturated, and the tooth was filled with composite material to restore its function and appearance. The patient tolerated the procedure well, with no pain reported during the visit.
Post-Treatment Care: The patient was advised to eat soft foods on the treated tooth for the first week, gradually transitioning to harder foods. Additionally, the need for a crown or cap to protect and strengthen the tooth was discussed, and the patient agreed to undergo the procedure after a week.
Outcome: Radiographs taken before, during, and after the root canal treatment revealed that the tooth was properly cleaned, shaped, and obturated, ensuring the success of the treatment.
Conclusion: This case study highlights the successful management of irreversible pulpitis in a young patient through thorough diagnosis, effective root canal treatment, and comprehensive post-treatment care. It underscores the importance of timely intervention and patient education in achieving favorable outcomes in endodontic procedures.
